"We want to see a new Horn of Africa - peaceful and democratic"

To illustrate and discuss the current situation in the Horn of Africa organized Network for Peace in the Horn of Africa, a seminar today in Stockholm with the theme: "Starvation and drought in the Horn of Africa: causes and consequences" Is it a lack of democracy and rights in the Horn of Africa which is the main cause of drought and starvation? Or this is due to armed conflict and the struggle for control over natural resources in the form of gas and oil in the region? Why not produce farmers in the Hornet enough food? Is this due to climate change or lack of knowledge of agricultural practice?
Network for Peace in the Horn of Africa is working to change the prevailing negative image of the Horn of Africa through the dissemination of information and knowledge about the positive changes occurring in the Horn of Africa. The network promotes a vision: "We want to see a new Horn of Africa, which is peaceful, reconciled, democratic and good governance".

"Our goal is to promote democracy in the Horn of Africa and strengthen ties between the peoples of the region socially, culturally and economically. We want to increase our knowledge and benefit from the Nordic experience of community development based on social movements, including through public education and that led to good governance, "said Yasin Ahmed, chairman of the Network for Peace in the Horn of Africa.
"The world must increase pressure on the Somali leaders to bring peace - but peace can be no development and famine will return. Here, leaders of neighboring countries, elsewhere in the world and also the Somali Diaspora to help," says Cecilia Bäck Lander, journalist and author.
